Madonna To Get Highest Price Ever Paid For TV Concert Special?

On May 22, 2006 Madonna kicked off her "Confessions" tour in California albeit 45 minutes late, yet the delay didn't damper the enthusiasm of the sold-out Forum crowd.  That's the deal with Madge, she can be late, write erotic books or burn crosses and people love her.

Madonna might get the highest price ever paid for a TV concert special - $15 million from NBC, the Daily News reports - from her current "Confessions" tour.

Now it still remains to be seen whether or not the network would air her as she hangs herself - crown of thorns and all - from a disco-glittery 20-foot huge cross in an imitation of the execution of Jesus or yelling profanities during an anti-Bush montage.

MADONNA RUMOURED TO BE NEXT H & M MODEL

US pop queen Madonna could be the latest of a string of celebrities to pose as a model for Swedish low-cost fashion retailer Hennes and Mauritz (H and M), a Swedish newspaper said on Tuesday.

The daily Expressen said that Madonna was in negotiations with the company.

"She's a superstar, a style icon - and controversial. Now Madonna could be H and M's next clothing model," the paper said.

H and M would neither confirm nor deny the report. "Our policy is to never comment on such reports," company spokesperson Kristina Stenvinkel told AFP.

The retailer announced earlier this month that Dutch designer duo Viktor + Rolf would create a special collection for H and M this autumn, to be launched in November.

But it has yet to announce who will don the creations in the accompanying advertising campaign.

Previous H and M models have included superstars Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford and Anna Nicole Smith.

Last year, British supermodel Kate Moss was dropped from the group's ad campaign after allegations arose that she had taken cocaine.

Expressen pointed out that Madonna had a long history of collaborating with Swedes, including music producers, songwriters, music video directors and even her yoga instructor.

FACE Atelier to Make Up Madonna's Confessions
Canadian brand FACE atelier was recently named the Official Makeup Sponsor for Madonna's Confessions Tour. FACE atelier was recently asked to be the Official Makeup Sponsor for Madonna’s Confessions Tour, which launched last night in Los Angeles.

This is another feather in the cap for the Canadian brand that took the first ever Makeup Show NYC by storm.

Held last week at the Metropolitan Pavilion, FACE atelier was featured in master classes held by acclaimed makeup artists Billy B, Kevin James Bennett, James Vincent and Johnny Lavoy.

Bennett, a two-time Emmy® Award winner, proclaimed that FACE atelier’s Ultra Foundation is “the gold standard for liquid foundations, against which all other liquid foundations will now be judged.”

The founder of FACE atelier, Debbie Bondar, herself fifty years old and the mother of two grown daughters, is committed to helping women of all ages realize that there is nothing wrong with them as they are. Rather than trying to defy their reality, she urges women to embrace it.

MADONNA TOUCHES DOWN
Ms. Ciccone expands from the dance tent at Coachella to plusher digs at the Forum and Staples Center.

At her recent appearance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, Madonna immersed herself in the indie-rock scene and "never let the energy — nor the attitude — flag," Richard Cromelin wrote for The Times. The 47-year-old pop queen and sex symbol launches a new concert tour Sunday at the Forum that figures to make the most of her still leotard-friendly figure as well as her ever-morphing, ever-danceable hits that stretch back nearly a quarter of a century.

Madonna at the Forum, 3900 W. Manchester Blvd., Inglewood. 8 p.m. Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday. $55 to $350. (310) 330-7340.

Also 8 p.m. June 3 at Staples Center, 1111 S. Figueroa St., Los Angeles. $57 to $362.75. (213) 742-7340.

THE MOST EXPENSIVE SUMMER MUSIC TICKETS
Want to see your favorite artists? Be prepared to pay big buck.

Once again the Material Girl is living up to her nickname. When her 15-week tour kicks off in Inglewood, Calif., on May 21, Madonna will be asking her fans to shell out up to $375 a person to watch her strut her stuff on stage. She won't be the only aging star asking such high prices. Tickets to comeback kid Barry Manilow's tour cost the same amount on the high end and, if the rumors are right, Barbra Streisand could go on stage in front of people who paid as much as $2,500 apiece to be there.

None of the three biggest-grossing acts from last year, The Rolling Stones ($162 million), U2 ($138.9 million), and Paul McCartney ($77.3 million) are planning a blockbuster U.S. tour this year. Their absence leaves the door open to other top-tier acts, like Madonna, Manilow and the king of Margaritaville, Jimmy Buffett, who will charge upwards of $150 for some premium seats.

Madonna's last two tours — "Drowned World Tour" in 2001 and "Re-Invention World Tour" in 2004 — grossed a combined $200 million, and this year, her promoters are going for even more. According to Britain's Daily Telegraph, this tour, though only half the size of the Stones or U2 of last year, is expected to gross upwards of $190 million due to higher ticket prices.

MADONNA TO CROSS PICKET LINE

Star caught in union standoff with LA Forum.

Fans attending Madonna's concert in Los Angeles this weekend will have more than traffic jams and ticket scalpers to worry about -- they'll also have to contend with hundreds of union picketers.

Organizers of the stage employees union have been stirring up interest in a Madonna picket since the star had a dress rehearsal at the Forum on Monday. The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees has been locked out of the Forum since April 11 following a salary dispute with the stadium's owners.

Jim Wright, a business rep for the union, says several hundred people are expected to rally at the concert on Sunday, and will urge concertgoers not to buy concessions or souvenirs at the Forum.
Wright said the union tried to convince the star to move her show to another venue, with no luck.

Calls to Madonna's reps were not immediately returned.
