| Madonna
tops 2008 wish list |
|

|
|
| |
MADONNA
is being lined up to headline the Summer Pops in Capital
of Culture year.
The star's name was linked with the Pops today as it
emerged that last year's series of summer gigs cost
Liverpool council £780,000 to subsidise.
Officials said the Queen of Pop was top of the list
of artists being pursued as they start preparing the
line-up for 2008.
Luring Madonna to play in Liverpool for the first time
would be a massive coup for the Pops as it moves to
its new home at the Kings Dock arena.
Organisers said the venue's 10,000-seat capacity, compared
with 4,000 in the Big Top, meant ahigher calibre of
artist should be attracted to the city.
Pops promoter Chas Cole said: "We intend to be
exceptionally ambitious for the 2008 line-up and Madonna
is right at the top of our wishlist."
The near-£800,000 cost of last year's event was
revealed in a report published after an investigation
by councillors into how the Pops was operated.
But Mr Cole and Jason Harborow, chief executive of the
Culture Company, said they were satisfied the Pops provided
value for money, despite the subsidy.e coup for the
Pops as it moves to its new home at the Kings Dock arena. |

| Queen
of the pop ready to jump |
|
| |
|
|
| |
The
Queen of Pop may have unleashed her "Confessions
On A Dance Floor," but top 40 radio couldn't be
less interested in hearing it.
"Hung Up", her first
release from the dance record, got a fair amount of
play, however, by the time "Sorry" hit airwaves,
radio was apologizing for the small splash it made.
"Get Together" has been basically ignored,
and the fourth song to try to bounce Madonna back onto
the charts, is crowd pleaser and commercial friendly,
"Jump."
Fans have been left wondering if Madonna is losing her
reign. One reason behind the apparent boycott is that
mainstream radio is more hip hop driven and Madonna's
latest album is a combination of techno-disco-dance-pop.
Many fans love the sound and are fighting to get her
Majesty back to her rightful place.
On petitiononline.com, over 6,200 followers have virtually
signed a petition, aimed at Mark P. Mays, CEO of Clear
Channel Communications, the largest radio conglomerate
in the United States. This "End the Madonna on
U.S. Radio Boycott" is an appeal to cease the real
or imagined refusal of top 40 radio to play Madonna
songs. The petition suggests that since her video for
the single "American Life," which was riddled
with controversy, radio has banished her from their
play roster. It also accuses Clear Channel of being
largely run by republicans supporting the war in Iraq,
unlike Madonna, who has been outspoken about the war.
Addressed to all pop music lovers, it also calls for
everyone, not only Madonna admirers, to sign and make
a stand against radio's disinterest against artists
whose label refuses to pay-for-play, referencing the
payola scandal the four major labels and various radio
stations have been involved in. The form says how unfair
it is that mainstream radio is hip hop and rhythm &
blues based, blocking the chances of alternative musical
styles from reaching the listeners. Consequently, the
audience at large is denied these songs and the charts
do not fairly represent what today's top music is. |

Madonna tour hits city ... without star |
|
MADONNA'S
world tour touched down in Glasgow today, even though
she's not playing the city.
As the queen of pop prepared to embark on her UK leg of
the show, Glasgow Airport saw a flurry of activity dealing
with her precious cargo - her glamourous wardrobe.
Just after completing the US leg in Miami, the staging,
equipment, lighting and sound gear was packed up and flown
to the UK.
Her stage wardrobe was brought in this morning on the
Florida to Glasgow FlyGlobespan flight, whose staff were
responsible for millions of pounds worth of gear which
British fans will get their first glimpse of on Sunday.
Ben Sergeant, Cargo Manager for Kestrel Aircargo who handle
flyglobespan, said: "We were handling a particularly
valuable cargo and I am sure her fans will be eager to
catch a glimpse of her outfits which have been flown in
to Glasgow." |

Guy Ritchie tries comeback |
|
| |
|
| |
| Guy Ritchie
makes an attempt to a come back out of his career’s
downfall since marrying Madonna, by signing to direct
“Static”, a gangster odyssey brought out
by Columbia Pictures.
In 2001, Columbia fought for the script and won over
several other studios and paid a $400k advance to author
Brad Gann. They went into discussions in the ensuing
years with Stephen Kay ("Get Carter") and
Chris Robinson ("ATL") to direct the movie.
Finally, Ritchie has signed up to rewrite the script
with Martin Askew. The story will focus on a wrongly
imprisoned gangster who, with the help of his loyal
posse, must make his way across town through crooked
cops and rival gangsters. He makes all the fuss in order
to testify against the dirty cops who put him away.
Guy Ritchie started off promisingly with “The
Hard Case” in 1995, followed by the highly acclaimed
“Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels” in
1998, recognized for its originality. Next came another
winner, 2000’s “Snatch” which starred
Brad Pitt in the role of Mickey O'Neil. He was compared
with Quentin Tarantino.
Ritchie’s career took a steep downturn after marrying
pop singer Madonna. He put forward two movies that cast
a heavy cloud on his career, “Swept Away”
which starred Madonna and “Revolver”, another
“winner” of bad reviews. In “Swept
Away,” Ritchie cast Madonna as a rich, rude socialite
who, after a shipwreck, is trapped on a deserted island
with a slovenly servant who smacks and humiliates her.
The woman is called Amber Leighton, the name of Guy
Ritchie's mother. The film was both a critical and commercial
disappointment.
"Static" will be Ritchie's fourth gangster
film.
Guy Ritchie is the stepson of Sir Michael Leighton of
Loton Park and a descendant of Edward I. While a teen,
he paradoxically suffered from dyslexia, a condition
which causes difficulty with reading and writing, while
their reading problems cannot be explained by a lack
of intellectual ability, inadequate instruction, or
sensory problems.
He married Madonna on December 22, 2000, at the Skibo
Castle in Scotland, and they have two children, Rocco
and Lourdes, aged five and nine, of which only Rocco
is the couple’s offspring. Guy Ritchie is 10 years
Madonna’s junior. Rumors say they plan to adopt
an orphan baby soon. Other rumors claimed Ritchie tried
to get Madonna off Kabala, which created a rift with
the Christian-based holydays celebrated by most of their
friends. Kabala also absorbs millions of dollars of
Madonna’s money, according to some press reports. |

Who's that girl? Madonna wraps up for the beach |
|
|
| |
| |
On
a beach dotted with bikini-clad women, there is only one
way to stand out.
But although she's notorious for cavorting semi-naked,
Madonna had little choice but to cover up at a beach in
Miami with her daughter Lourdes, who wore a normal swimming
costume.
The queen of pop walked between the beach and her hotel
wrapped in white cloth from head to toe, looking unusually
modest and perhaps more like an Arab woman than a sunbather
on a Miami beach.
The dramatic towel wrap-up, one can safely assume, was
to protect her from the sun.
Not one to tan, Madonna is on her World Confessions tour
and is no doubt keen to stay milky white. |

Madonna's toilet seat demands |
|
|
|
| |
| LIFE STYLE
EXTRA (UK) - Madonna demands a brand new toilet seat
at every concert she plays.
The 'Hung Up' singer is said to be so paranoid about
germs she has requested that her dressing room toilets
are fitted with a fresh seat for every night of her
'Confessions' world tour.
A source revealed to Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper:
"The seat has to be inspected by her people, then
installed - with an unbroken seal - by plumbers before
every gig."
Madonna's spokesperson Liz Rosenburg confirmed that
cleanliness is very important to the star, adding, "And
who wouldn't want a new toilet seat wherever they go?"
The bizarre request is just one of many of the singer's
crazy tour demands.
Madge has also asked for three special Kabbalah candles
- a 'DNA of the Soul' candle, which restores meaning
to lives, a 'Power of Prosperity' candle which helps
the star to remain unaffected by fame, and an 'Evil
Eye' candle which protects against negative glances.
A relaxing foot spa complete with lavender and camomile
body soak, plenty of Kabbalah water, and a love seat.
Madonna, 47, also insists her dressing room is covered
with white drapes and white roses - the symbolic colour
of her Kabbalah faith.
The UK leg of her tour kicks off in Cardiff, Wales,
on Sunday (30.07.06). |

Madonna tops MTV video poll |
|
|
|
| |
Madonna's
Like a Prayer, condemned by Christian organisations
as blasphemous upon its release in 1989, has topped
a poll of videos which "broke the rules".
The clip showed the singer dancing around burning crosses
and kissing a black Christ-like figure in a church.
It came first in a survey of 10,000 MTV viewers, with
Madonna's songs Ray of Light and Vogue also in the top
five.
Baby One More Time by Britney Spears was number two,
with Michael Jackson's 13-minute epic Thriller in third
place.
Madonna - one of the icons of the MTV age - has been
excluded from the network's playlist on more than one
occasion because of the content of her videos.
It refused to show Justify My Love in 1990 because of
its sexual themes.
Erotica and What it Feels Like For a Girl - depicting
an angry woman on a crime spree - would be screened
only in the early hours when they were released in 1992
and 2001 respectively..
VIDEOS WHICH BROKE THE RULES
1. Madonna, Like a Prayer
2. Britney Spears, Baby One More Time
3. Michael Jackson, Thriller
4. Madonna, Ray of Light
5. Madonna, Vogue
6. Michael and Janet Jackson, Scream
7. Robbie Williams, Rock DJ
8. Eric Prydz, Call on Me
9. Jamiroquai, Virtual Insanity

Madonna's fans fight for radio play |
|
|
|
| |
| Is Madonna
the subject of a Dixie Chicks-like boycott?
Songs from the Material Girl’s latest album, “Confessions
on a Dance Floor,” have been hits around the world,
but hasn’t fared as well in the U.S. Some fans
are alleging that radio stations owned by Clear Channel
— a company with strong ties to the Republican
party — are refusing to play her music because
of the pop star’s comments blasting George Bush
and the war in Iraq. Madonna has been an outspoken critic
of the war and during her current “Confessions”
concert tour, makes obscene comments about President
Bush. Clear Channel stations were said to be key in
keeping the Dixie Chicks’ music off the air after
one of them made highly publicized comments about being
“embarrassed” to be from the same state
as George Bush.
Nearly 5,000 Madonna fans have signed a petition that’s
being sent to Clear Channel head Mark P. Mays, accusing
the company of keeping the singer off the radio airwaves.
“The evidence that there is a boycott from American
Radio is too obvious for words ... Madonna rules the
planet, EXCEPT for the USA,” according to the
petition writer, who went on to note that Madonna holds
the two top positions in the United World Chart, but
a number of petition signers report that when they request
Madonna’s music, they’re told by Clear Channel-owned
stations she’s too old or not popular enough.

Madonna clears up adoption rumours |
|
|
|
| |
MADONNA has
cleared up rumours she and husband GUY RITCHIE are planning
to adopt a child by revealing she's actually planning
to play mum to an African village.
The pop superstar set tongues wagging when news broke
about her reported
links to African adoption agencies last month (JUN06).
More recent reports even suggested the singer and her
movie maker husband were even seeking new dad BRAD PITT's
advice on adoption after he became the legal guardian
of girlfriend ANGELINA JOLIE's two adopted children.
But now Madonna has revealed, through her aides, she
has much bigger plans.
In a statement released yesterday (21JUL06), a spokeswoman
says, "Actually she is adopting a village of children...
Madonna is participating in the building of a school
and home for hundreds of kids in Malawi, Africa and
that is her current passion and commitment."

Madonna asked Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt to help her
adopther orphaned child. |
|
| |
|
| |
|
The singer
– mother to Lourdes, 9, and Rocco, 5 - wants another
child with her film director hubby Guy Ritchie, but
has struggled to get pregnant – so has turned
to the glamorous Hollywood couple for help.
Despite having their first natural baby together, Jolie
has successfully adopted two children from the Far East,
and adopted-Londoner Madonna has now hired Pitt’s
adoption lawyer.
A source tells The Sun, “Madonna and Guy had a
meeting with a British adoption agency but were not
satisfied that it was the right one. So they found another
agency in America and had a meeting with them becoming
parents to an orphaned baby.
“They both love children and are desperate to
expand their family. Sadly, Madonna has not been able
to get pregnant again.
“They have discussed the plans with the children
and Lola is very excited about the prospect of getting
a new brother or sister.”
The couple – who appear to have put their marriage
problems behind them - plan to work on the adoption
full-time after the conclusion of Madonna’s current
Confessions world tour in October. |

Madonna & Guy Ritchie's marriage is back on track |
|
| |
|
| |
The couple
have been plagued by reports in recent months that they're
relationship is on the rocks.
Guy's father, John Ritchie, even claimed the pair were
locked in bitter rows
over Madonna's hectic work schedule.
The rumors intensified after the 'Hung Up' singer confessed
she had
"married too early" and "for all thee
wrong reasons".
However, John Ritchie has now spoken out again about
his son's relationship with Madonna, this time claiming
they have worked out their differences.
He told America's In Touch Weekly magazine: "Their
marriage is back on
track. I know Madonna is away at the moment and leaving
Guy alone, but it
isn't a problem.
"He knows that will happen and is not worried about
it at all. He doesn't
mind her working. Their marriage is back on track."In
other news, Madonna is planning to adopt a child, her
father-in-law has claimed.
"Nothing would make me happier than if they adopt.
How lovely to have another one. "I'm sure Rocco
and Lourdes would love it as they are so close and another
sibling would be super. It is the children that keep
them together."
It is believed Guy and Madonna have made tentative plans
to adopt a baby
from the Vista del Mar Child and Family Services centre,
in California, and
have already begun the lengthy adoption process. A source
revealed: "They've begun the application process
and are currently undergoing an evaluation typical of
adoptive parents. "So far, they've been interviewed
and fingerprinted to begin the process."

| Madonna looks
amazing thanks to £7,000 vibrating plate |
|
|
|
| |
With her heavily
muscled arms, you would be forgiven for thinking it
is the result of a punishing exercise regime at the
gym.
But it seems the Queen of Pop's incredible shape is,
in part, thanks to The Power Plate - dubbed the 'miracle'
machine.
And for those who have spent years trying to beat the
wobble, the news is sure to send out good vibrations.
The new exercise machine removes the need to actually
work out.
Manufacturers claim that the vibrating platform offers
the same benefits of an hour-long sweaty gym workout
in just 15 minutes with the machine burning the calories
for you.
The Power Plate is said to be responsible for the incredible
shapes of not only Madonna, but also star such as Claudia
Schiffer and Natalie Imbruglia.
But the "miracle" machine doesn't come cheap
- at £6,995 it costs far more than the average
annual gym membership.
After the muscley 47-year-old Queen of Pop bought the
vibrating exercise platform, sales have reportedly soared.
A smaller version at John Lewis for £2,599 is
currently the store's fastest selling fitness product,
with one a day being snapped up, despite its princely
price tag.
And in Harrods, around 20 machines are sold every weekend.
The plate works by giving the body muscles a high speed
workout, as the vibrations make them contract and relax
up to 50 times a second.
It may feel like standing on a spin dryer, but celebrities
including Jonathan Ross, Colin Montgomerie, Sadie Frost
and Donatella Versace are all fans.
The machine is also being used by several premiership
football teams, including Manchester United and the
German team trained with it during the World Cup.
Originally developed by Russian scientist Vladimir Nazarov,
whole vibration training was used to prevent astronauts'
muscles and bones wasting when they were in space.
Later, Russian ballet dancers discovered that vibration
could aid the healing of their injuries by increasing
their muscular strength.
Dutch Olympic trainer Guus van der Meer used this research
in 1999 to develop the machine for the health and fitness
sector.
In addition to increasing strength and toning the body,
makers boast that it can improve blood flow and reduce
cellulite if used for 15 minutes, three times a week.
Instead of jogging or power walking, users are instructed
to do gentle exercises like squats or stretches on the
platform.
Suitable for all ages and fitness levels, it is now
being made available in gyms across the UK and has been
recommended for osteoporosis and arthritis sufferers
as it puts no strain on the joints.
A spokesman said: "Power Plate offers the benefits
of regular exercise - a toned body, better flexibility,
improved circulation which helps reduce the appearance
of cellulite, increased stamina and improved fitness
and well-being."
But fitness experts remain sceptical about the benefits
of the machine.
Chief executive of the Fitness Industry Association,
Andree Dean said: "It should only be used in conjunction
with other types of exercise.
"It's great for those short of time, but it is
not a quick fix and people shouldn't think that if they
use it, they don't have to go to the gym anymore.
"It certainly does not provide cardiovascular exercise,
which keeps the heart and blood circulation system healthy."

 |
| Madonna, other
fortysomethings still look hot |
|
|
|
| |
Hackensack,
N.J. - There are a hundred reasons to still be crazy
for Madonna - not the least of which are her abs, svelte
thighs and toned butt.
Watch the Queen of Pop strut around on stage and it
will be obvious that two kids and four decades have
done little to keep Madonna from striking the sexiest
of poses.
At nearly 48, Madonna is one hot mama. And that sex
appeal has made her beloved by women of all ages, especially
her peers.
"What Madonna says to women in particular is that
at age 47 it can be done," says Deborah Wilker,
a veteran entertainment journalist and bureau chief
for The Hollywood Reporter. "You don't have to
get married and live in the suburbs and look like (expletive)."
The message, according to Wilker, is "43 or 44
is like the new 31. I think a lot of women find that
very inspiring."
Madonna, of course, isn't the only middle-age celebrity
who is still a sex symbol. Fortysomething stars such
as Demi Moore, Vivica A. Fox, Heather Locklear and Teri
Hatcher are showing that youth doesn't have a monopoly
on hotness.
"I think the idea of a woman being sexy has expanded
a lot, and it has a lot to do with actresses turning
40 or above," says Ila Stanger, managing editor
of More magazine, a popular lifestyle magazine dedicated
to women 40 and older.
The attraction of today's fortysomething stars is not
just that they make men salivate, Stanger says.
"I think what is attractive about them isn't just
their looks - or in the case of Madonna their incredible
bodies," she says. "It is a sense that they
are smart and they have a sense of humor. And I think
that adds to the allure."
And that age-related je ne sais quoi is charming Hollywood's
hottest younger men.
Madonna, for example, is married to 37-year-old Guy
Ritchie, the handsome writer-director of "Snatch"
and, most recently, "Revolver." She gave birth
to the couple's son, Rocco, when she was 42.

No it's not
a teeth joke. Madonna will star in Gap commercials in
a new multimillion dollar ad campaign beginning this
fall. She will also use the venture to promote her children's
book, "The English Roses," slated for a September
release date.
Madonna doesn't lend her name and face to just anyone.
The most notable product she endorsed was Pepsi back
in 1989. The company dropped her after the controversial
"Like a Prayer" video hit the air.

GOING TO A
CONCERT is no longer a whimsical decision it's a financial
one. Do you go see the Rolling Stones or, say, remodel
the kitchen? Do you catch the Eagles or, maybe, take
the family on vacation?
Thanks to today's often atrocious ticket prices, such
debates are really not as ludicrous as they might sound.
For instance, if you managed to score one of the better
seats in the house when Madonna played the HP Pavilion
in San Jose last month, you probably paid some $400.
Yet Ms. Ciccone could learn a lesson from Public Diva
No. 1 Barbra Streisand when it comes to emptying fans'
wallets. Babs is charging $750 for top tickets to her
show at HP in November. Then, of course, there's an
extra $50 per ticket “convenience charge,”
conveniently slapped on when you order through Ticketmaster.
Don't forget to add the UPS shipping fee, which runs
as high as $25. That brings the total to a mindboggling
$825 for a single ticket.
Anyone care to bring a family of four to see Babs?
Yet, there are ways for music fans to see live music
without mortgaging their homes. If you're willing to
hunt for deals, and, perhaps, be a little adventurous,
you can discover a whole world of reasonably priced
concerts taking place every week in Northern California.
Of course they're not Babs or Madge, but they do have
talent.
To make our point, here's a list of 10 recommended shows
all of which are priced at less than $20. We even threw
in some information about affordable places to eat nearby.

Robbie Williams
has written a tribute to his heroine MADONNA - but is
nervous that the pop queen will now think he's stalking
her. The ROCK DJ singer and THE PET SHOP BOYS penned
the song SHE'S MADONNA for his forthcoming album 1974.
Pet Shop Boys frontman NEIL TENNANT says, "Apparently
she likes it. Rob feared she'd think he was stalking
her" |
