Madonna in 2006
NEW YORK (Billboard) - In a year when dance's prodigal mother -- Madonna herself -- showed her nightclub pride with an album called "Confessions on a Dance Floor," French producer Bob Sinclar won the battle for the hearts of America's DJs and clubgoers.

Madonna was No. 1 on the year-end hot dance club play artists chart. "Confessions" topped the electronic albums chart. "Sorry" and "Get Together" were No. 6 and No. 9 on hot dance club play singles, and No. 2 and No. 6 on hot dance airplay. And on hot dance single sales, Madonna's "Hung Up" was No. 2 and "Sorry" No. 4.

Madonna's "Confession" Tour DVD To Be Released
Los Angeles, CA (AHN) - Madonna isn't a force to be reckoned with and she will soon make her voice heard on a new concert DVD - without any censorship.

Madonna's long-awaited music DVD of her "Confessions" tour, which aired on NBC right before Thanksgiving, is set to be released on January 31. The DVD and CD combo pack will also include special behind-the-scenes footage.

Filming for her sold out 25-city "Confessions" tour was taped at London's Wembley Arena and will include songs from her latest hit album "Confessions On A Dance Floor" and footage that was cut from the NBC broadcast.

The DVD will feature an uncut version of "Live To Tell" and four songs that never aired on television. The total running time for the concert footage is an estimated two hours.

The CD will include top tracks "Jump," "Hung Up," "Sorry," "I Love New York" and familiar classics "Like A Virgin" and "Lucky Star."

The Orange Country Register describes the new DVD as a mix of Cirque du Soleil and dance extravaganza, saying "The pop spectacle of the year - a politically charged combination of Cirque du Soleil, performance-art commentary and dance-party explosion that more or less sums up everything that she has been striving to say and show this decade... it's quite possible the best production she has ever concocted."

"Confessions On Dance Floor" debuted at No.1 on the U.S. charts and has sold over 8 million copies worldwide.

Madonna designs Roses clothes range
Girls' clothes created by pop star Madonna are set to launch in the UK.

They are inspired by a book the Material Girl wrote for children, called The English Roses.

Madonna and manufacturer Lipstik Clothing used illustrations from the book as inspiration for the clothing designs.

The range is already on sale in the US and will launch in the UK at the Premier Kids trade show in Birmingham at the end of January.

Publicity material for the range says: "The vivid colours and trend-setting design have made Madonna's The English Roses the hippest line of girl's clothing on the market."

Rachel Barnes, news editor of fashion trade magazine Drapers, said it was notoriously difficult to break into the UK children's clothing market.
Commenting on Madonna's new range, she said: "To create a lucrative brand, she'll have to pick one look and stick with it.

"The difficulty is that the kids' market is all about price in the UK. We don't spend much on kidswear, particularly with the rise of supermarket fashion. So it may do better in Europe than here."

Madonna's literary debut The English Roses became the fastest-selling children's picture book of all time in the UK after it went on sale in 2003. The illustrated story about four school girls sold more than 10,000 copies in the UK within a week of hitting stores.

Details of which UK retailers will sell Madonna's range of children's clothes and at what price have not yet been released.

Fashion Scoops: Madonna's Moment...
Steven Klein has shot the ad campaign for Madonna's second collection with Sweden's fast-fashion giant Hennes & Mauritz. Industry sources say the mood is ultraglamorous and, surprise, very sexy. The ads feature curve-hugging silhouettes, military details and satin cummerbunds, and the pieces reflect Madonna's own wardrobe, which is packed with tight skirts, high heels and sunglasses. As reported, M by Madonna is slated to hit stores this March. An H&M spokeswoman declined to comment.

Madonna’s take on hall-of-famer Emile Griffith
According to today’s Sun, Madonna, the Queen of Pop, aka the Material Girl, plans on directing her first feature film, called “Blade To The Heat,” which will focus on the fatal Emile Griffith-Benny Paret fight at Madison Square Garden in 1962.

Madonna’s production company, Maverick Entertainment, has thrown its weight behind the project, and “Blade To The Heat,” while definitely a boxing flick, will also deal with the ambiguities of Griffith’s sexuality, which played a part in the ring death of Paret, and which no doubt piqued Madonna’s interest.

The outing will be Madonna’s first time behind the camera. Her in front of the camera credits include “Desperately Seeking Susan” (1985), “A League Of Their Own” (1992), “Dick Tracy” (1990), “Evita” (1996), and the remake of “Swept Away” (2002), a flop produced and directed by her husband Guy Ritchie.

In addition to the above, Madonna’s concert films, “The Virgin Tour” (1985), “Blond Ambition” (1990), “Truth or Dare” (1991), and “The Girlie Show (1993), not to mention her lip-lock with Britney Spears in 2005, establish her bona fides when it comes to exploring the outer limits of what it means to be polymorphous perverse.

Love Wants Reconciliation With Madonna
Rocker Courtney Love wants to end her feud with Madonna - but she won't be the first to make a peace offering to the pop superstar. The pair fell out over ten years ago following a row at the 1995 MTV Video Music Awards in New York, when Love threw a make-up compact at Madonna during an interview with the Hung Up star. The former Hole frontwoman admits the pair were last in contact in 2000, when Love attended Madonna's wedding to movie director Guy Ritchie - but has now thrown down the gauntlet to reignite their friendship. Courtney tells gossip site The Scoop, "We have not spoken since her wedding. "I want to make peace, but hey, I am not going to make the first move."

Madonna at The British Comedy Awards in London
Madonna did surprise appearance at the 17th annual British Comedy Awards, hosted by Jonathan Ross.

Tthe singer came on stage to present Sacha Baron Cohen with the Ronnie Barker Award.
KING of quips Jonathan Ross had the cream of British comedy in stitches last night - but nearly needed stitches himself after tangling with pop queen Madonna.

Wossy, hosting the British Comedy Awards, welcomed Madonna on stage to present a gong and told her: "Congratulations on your lovely little black baby, David."

Cool Madge took the quip in her stride and fired back: "You might be going home with a black eye." The audience, many of whom had been on the receiving end of Wossy's wit during his hilarious introduction, roared in approval at her response.

H&M plans 2nd Madonna fashion collection
STOCKHOLM, Sweden - Europe's largest fashion retailer Hennes & Mauritz has once again sealed a deal to create a fashion line with Madonna, the company said Thursday.

Madonna will team up with H&M's head of design Margareta van den Bosch to create the "M by Madonna" women's wear collection — scheduled to be launched globally in March.

This is the second time the world-famous singer collaborates with the Swedish clothing chain. H&M supplied Madonna and her entire entourage with a complete offstage wardrobe for the Confessions World Tour that began on May 21.

"I've made no secret of my love for fashion and trends," Madonna said in a statement. "Working with Margareta and H&M was an exciting and new creative challenge for me. I'm really happy with the results and look forward to wearing 'M by Madonna' along with the rest of the world."

H&M said the new collection will "reflect Madonna's timelessness, unique and always glamorous style."

Madonna has a long history of working with Swedes, including music video director Jonas Akerlund and top music producer and song writer Anders Bagge.

Madonna to design range for Sweden's H&M
STOCKHOLM (Reuters) - Pop icon Madonna is to design a range of clothes and accessories for Swedish fashion giant Hennes & Mauritz, which will be launched in March 2007, the company said on Thursday.

The Swedish underwear-to-suits firm has signed up a string of designers such as Karl Lagerfeld and Stella McCartney to produce one-off collections.

H&M also provided an off-stage wardrobe for Madonna, her band and dancers for her latest tour and the singer has designed a track-suit for the firm.

"The 'M by Madonna' fashion line will reflect Madonna's timeless, unique and always glamorous style," H&M said.

"Madonna has an impressive feel for fashion and trends. She was extraordinarily style conscious, passionate and was involved in even the smallest details of every design," it added.

Analysts said the tie-up would be positive for H&M sales.

"Naturally, it is positive that they are continuing to work with Madonna," said Stefan Stjernholm, analyst at Swedbank.

"There is going to be lots of interest for Madonna's collection, but it will also contribute to more interest in H&M in general. Their sales ought definitely to be influenced."

A second analyst said Madonna would give H&M "very welcome publicity and help sales."

Shares in H&M were up 0.6 percent at 322 crowns at 0845 GMT against

Auction House: Madonna's "DANCE" Jacket
When Madonna made her national television debut on American Bandstand in 1984, Dick Clark asked her about her future ambition. She replied, "to rule the world." Madonna has come pretty close to world domination by paving the way for new levels of freedom in lyrical content and personal style. This jacket was worn by Madonna while on the 1987 "Who's That Girl" world tour in Japan and in Japanese commercials for the Fuji brand. The dark colored tailored jacket contains mirrored reflectors and brightly hued elements of Japanese design. Across the back, the word "DANCE" has been appliquéd in bright pink and green fabric with long pink and white fringe. Excellent condition. Inside right lapel is a tag that reads "Vaughn of Sather Gate University men's shops."

Brand defends Madonna

Russell Brand has defended Madonna's choice to adopt a Malawi orphan by saying she can give the child confidence.

The flamboyant comedian says the 'Hung Up' singer is a "wonderful woman' for giving baby David a loving home and privileged upbringing.
He said: "She'll be a good mother to the young lad. I don't understand what the problem is - if you're brought up by Madonna you grow up confident. And you'll get really good stuff."

The funnyman also thinks 14-month-old David and Madonna's other children, Lourdes, ten, and Rocco, six, should follow in their mother's musical footsteps.

He said: "Perhaps they can form a skiffle group - one of them on washboard, one on banjo and one on a snare drum."

Madonna shines on Fifth Avenue Two-story-high images of the "material girl" at H&M create an innovative window display By Sarah Kohl, Contributor
Known for its affordable "fast fashion" and innovative business model, Stockholm, Sweden-based H&M Hennes & Mauritz AB jumped ahead of the curve again in August with eye-catching window displays at its New York flagship store on Fifth Avenue. Two-story-tall images of Madonna, displayed in a stunning Light Emitting Capacitor (LEC) fashion, illuminated Fifth Avenue as part of this first-time collaboration between the Stockholm, Sweden-based retailer, LEC technology manufacturer CeeLite, and large-format graphics company Blue Ocean WorldWide.

Blue Bell, Pa.-based CeeLite's Michael Binder, senior vice president of business development, first presented its LEC technology to David Stadler, CEO of Blue Ocean WorldWide, New York, who in turn, thought that the technology could be applied to the H&M project. "When I first saw the product, I was blown away," Stadler says of the paper-thin, low-energy panels that provide 99 percent uniform surface illumination.

"When I brought the product to H&M, they were really intrigued."
When H&M announced that Madonna had agreed to a long-term advertising arrangement, the retailer turned to Blue Ocean WorldWide to format a window display. The request sent H&M on its first steps toward an innovative series of backlit window displays impressive enough to befit the "material girl" herself—all created over a three-week span.

"H&M initially requested a backlit display for the second- and third-floor windows," says Gabrielle Santulli, marketing director for CeeLite."Blue Ocean took H&M's idea one step further by creating a light show by sequencing the 10 floor-to-ceiling windows with CeeLite LEC panels."

Blue Ocean WorldWide custom designed the graphics for the display, creating a simple yet powerful image—a stark white background, highlighting Madonna and the clothing. The simplicity of the image stands in contrast with the intricate suspension and lighting system.

The graphics were stretched across each of the 10 windows using a Blue Ocean-designed tension system. The tension system holds the backlit vinyl, which was adhered to each of the 72 CeeLite-manufactured, 3-ft.-by-5-ft. LEC panels, stretched taut against the 12-ft.-by-12-ft. and 12-ft.-by-24-ft. windows. The panels were then mounted to the ceiling 4 ft. behind the graphics to illuminate them from behind.

Stadler credits H&M's Luca Michelangeli with coming up with the idea for a sequencing lighting pattern, which created a seamless series of images backlit by a continuous source of light. A series of inverters were installed in each window and preprogrammed to generate a 14-second sequence of fade ins and outs, creating a window display that lit up the city street below.

The response to the displays has been astounding, Stadler says, and plans are underway to continue the window display collaboration. H&M continues to be hush-hush about the details of its future promotional plans, as it was with the initial Madonna campaign in August, but its plans for similar applications at both its San Francisco and New York locations are sure to make their mark during the holiday season.
