| Madonna
concert organizers scotch rumors of Moscow cancellation |
|
| |
|
|
| |
MOSCOW, August 31 (RIA Novosti) - Organizers of American
pop diva Madonna's hotly anticipated debut concert in
Moscow rejected media rumors Thursday that the singer
had decided to cancel the show for security reasons.
Russian tabloid Zhizn reported that Madonna, 48, had been
informed about possible terrorist attacks in Moscow during
her show and had decided to call off her show in the Russian
capital even though tens of thousands of tickets have
been sold. The Moscow tour date has also disappeared from
the schedule on Madonna's official site.
But Anton Atrashkin, a PR manager of Madona's tour, said
the rumors were total nonsense.
"The situation has not changed at the moment and
the concert will take place September 12, as scheduled,"
he said adding that Madonna's managers had visited Moscow
Wednesday and were satisfied with the concert's venue.
The concert, part of Madonna's world tour to promote her
10th studio album, "Confessions on a Dance Floor",
had been rescheduled from September 11 to 12 to avoid
it clashing with the anniversary of the 2001 terrorist
attacks on New York and Washington. The concert's venue
was also moved from the Vorobyovy Gory hill overlooking
the capital in front of Moscow State University to the
Luzhniki stadium, also in the southwest of the capital.
The decision to hold the event at the Luzhniki was made
by NCA, an official partner of LIFE NATION, the singer's
concert organizer, and the Moscow authorities, NCA President
Mikhail Shurygin said Monday.
"I assure you that Madonna's concert will take place
September 12 at the Luzhniki sports center," he said.
Controversy has dogged the tour as religious groups have
condemned a section of the show, which features a song
in which Madonna is apparently crucified during her concerts
on a giant cross studded with small mirrors. Representatives
of the Russian Orthodox Church and the Muslim community
have advised believers to stay away.
Madonna already cancelled her concert in Israel eighteen
months ago when Palestinian extremists threatened to kill
her and her two children. |

| Madonna
to be Louis Vuitton’s new face? |
|
| |
|
|
| |
London, Aug 31: Queen of pop Madonna has sparked off rumors
that she is set to become the next face of Louis Vuitton
after agreeing to sing at a private party for the designer.
According to the Mirror, the ‘Hung Up’ singer,
who is currently on her ‘Confessions’ world
tour, will perform at a lavish company bash in Prague
on September 8 - a day after her concert in the Czech
capital.
The 48-year old singer has been in great demand ever since
landing a deal to promote Swedish fashion chain H &
M.
And even though reps for Louis Vuitton and Madonna are
keeping mum about the deal, sources revealed that the
singer, who happens to be a huge fan of the fashion giant,
was keen to sign on the dotted line. |

Madonna's Wedding Tiara up for
auction |
|
|
| |
|
The tiara MADONNA wore at her wedding to GUY RITCHIE is
being auctioned on eBay to raise money for the victims
of Hurricane Katrina. The LIKE A VIRGIN singer has donated
the impressive Edwardian jewellery to the Kazanjian Foundation
Jewels For Charity Auction, and it can be bid for on the
auction website until tomorrow (01SEP06). Madonna shone
in the tiara, which features 78 carats of diamonds and
was provided by Asprey of London, at her 2000 nuptials
at Skibo Castle in Scotland. Wealthy fans who want a piece
of glittering memorabilia can still grab a bargain - the
tiara, which can be converted into a necklace, is worth
$325,000 (GBP171,150) but has yet to attract a bid, so
the sale is stuck on the starting amount - a still considerable
$225,000 (GBP118,500). |

Prague- Czech police arrested on Tuesday four members
of an organised group who allegedly counterfeited tickets
for two concerts of U.S. pop signer Madonna in Prague,
Prague police spokeswoman Iva Knolova said.
According to original information, the men have forged
more than 300 tickets. Since the suspects are members
of the "hard core" of fans of one of the Czech
soccer clubs, a riot police unit dealt with them, Knolova
said.
During home searches police seized forged tickets, equipment
for their production, pistols in illegal possession and
the money originated from criminal activity.
"It is about 500,000 crowns," Knolova said.
The police are questioning the four suspects and they
could be charged in the next hours with fraud, illegal
arms possession and harming the rights of other people.
According to the police, the group activities were well
organised. They produced and sold the tickets for several
months.
The police detained the men on August 29 at various places
in Prague.
Madonna was originally to give only one concert in Prague
on September within her Confessions Tour as her first
ever concert in the Czech Republic.
Madonna's fans bought out the tickets for the first concert
in less than two hours. That is why the signer decided
at the very last moment to add another performance a day
later.
Tickets for Madonna's second concert, to be held on September
7, were also sold out at Sazka company's terminals in
a record short time of over one hour and half.

A source told Britain's Closer magazine: "She has

Madge is currently travelling
the globe with her ‘Confessions’ tour and
Ritchie is reportedly unhappy with the upheaval it has
caused in his family’s life.
The couple are now planning to take time out to devote
to one another.
A friend of Madge told Grazia magazine: "They've
made appointments to have a 'connection' with each other
three times a week.
“Madonna has also requested 'M time' each week,
when she will talk to Guy about her career and he will
offer advice."
The couple are also planning sacrificing certain things
for each other, Ritchie has promised to cut back on
his Playstation games and pub trips while Madge has
promised Ritchie some home cooking.

LIFE STYLE EXTRA (UK) - Madonna and Guy Ritchie have reportedly
been rowing over their children's schooling.
Guy has grown increaingly unhappy with his wife taking
Lourdes, nine, and five-year-old Rocco with her on her
current 'Confessions' world tour.
The 'Snatch' director is reportedly fed up with the constant
upheaval and has demanded the children are left in one
place when the new school year begins next week.
A source told Britain's The Sun newspaper: "The kids
already have schools in London and Los Angeles which they
float between.
"Madonna thinks it's good for her children to be
with mum and see the world but Guy disagrees - he's more
traditional. It's causing a lot of tension."
Earlier this year, Madonna confessed she was a "c**p
mother".
The 48-year-old singer admitted she was finding it a struggle
to balance her career with being a parent.
She said at the time: "It is a struggle to balance
my career with my children. I'm always going, 'Oh God,
I'm a c**p mother'. I want to get home and put my kids
to bed.
"And then sometimes, if I'm spending a lot of time
with my children, I think, 'Oh God, I just want to be
an artist'." |

| Bathgowns
in vogue? Surely not, Madonna... |
|
Madonna
is famous for appearing on stage in skin-tight leather
bondage outfits - and let's not forget that John
Paul Gaultier cone-breasted bustier from the 1990
Blonde Ambition tour.
But it seems that her on-stage costumes can get
a bit binding. Just minutes after her show at the
Paris-Bercy arena, Madonna was snapped swathed in
a white towelling dressing gown and some natty crested
slippers, cradling a hot cup of something soothing
from Starbucks.
|
|
|
|
| |
The real question is: are the dressing gown and slippers
from the Crillon, where Madge is staying? And will the
hotel bill her for taking the property off the premises?
The 48-year-old is three months into her gruelling Confessions
tour, which features two hours of song-and-dance routines,
so no wonder she's feeling the need to slip into something
more comfortable as soon as she comes offstage.
No word as yet as to how the Parisians reacted to Madonna's
set line-up. Disgruntled fans in London complained she
didn't play enough of her old favourites. |

LONDON/MPHANDULA,
Malawi (Reuters) - Madonna feels responsible for the children
of the world and has found herself a "big, big project"
to help orphans in Malawi.
Madonna's charity plans were announced in an interview
with Time magazine, which itself pointed out that for
someone who has never been to Africa "the whole enterprise
has the pungent aroma of a coordinated act of publicity."
The fact that orphans at a planned care center in Malawi
will be taught a curriculum based on Spirituality For
Kids, a group linked to the Kabbalah school of mysticism
to which Madonna adheres, could add to the cynicism.
But to people in Mphandula, where the center is to be
built, such arguments are unimportant.
"All I know is that she is rich and a very compassionate
mother. She is our mother now," said village headman
Mphandula, who had never heard of Madonna. "It is
a gift from God."
Rosemary Chikanda, mother of four who is HIV positive
but cannot access free life-prolonging anti-retroviral
drugs. "I don't know Madonna. What I only know is
that she is a rich musician who has come to help us,"
she said in Mphandula. "Whoever this woman is, God
bless her because finally I will have someone to look
after my children. "My husband died five years ago
and I know I am next and this center is my only hope."

| Madonna:
sometimes I wish I was anonymous |
|
| |
|
|
| |
Madonna
has revealed she sometimes regrets being in the public
eye - and being married - but would never give up her
family.
She told VSD magazine: “Of course I regret losing
the freedom of being able to go out alone to a club -
dancing alone on a darkened dance floor without anyone
to disturb me or to draw attention to me. I regret not
being able to take advantage of such anonymity.”
“[But] the small amount of free time that I have
I reserve for my children. There’s the ice rink,
pizza, DVD or a horse ride with my daughter. That might
seem boring to you, but that’s how it is. The times
have changed for me.”
She also mentioned that her children, daughter Lourdes
and son Rocco, are fans of her work but husband Guy Ritchie
isn’t so keen: “My children adore all that
I do, they love dance music. My husband isn’t a
great fan.” |

| |
 |
| Madonna:
My husband hates my music |
|
| |
|
|
| |
Madonna
has admitted that her husband Guy Ritchie is not a fan
of her music.
In an extraordinary interview published in France, the
pop queen also said that she misses her single days when
she could go out alone.
Talking about her recent hits, Madonna said her children
Lourdes, 9, and Rocco, 6, were the only members of the
family who really appreciated them.
"My children adore all that I do, they love dance
music. My husband isn't a great fan," she admitted.
Madonna also confessed that family life could sometimes
be stifling. She said: "Of course I regret losing
the freedom of being able to go out alone to a club -
dancing alone on a darkened dance floor without anyone
to disturb me or to draw attention to me.
"I regret not being able to take advantage of such
anonymity."
Madonna added: "Last week I went to a club where
I danced with lots of my friends. It was very enjoyable.
"In turn, I go out from time to time with some of
my dancers. Not every night, of course. I have a family."
Asked if she would rather spend a night at home, or go
out for a "mad night" in a club, Madonna replied:
"The small amount of free time that I have I reserve
for my children. There's the ice rink, pizza, DVD or a
horse ride with my daughter.
"That might seem boring to you, but that's how it
is. The times have changed for me."
Despite a relatively staid existence, Madonna said she
retained the ability to reinvent herself.
She said: "I see myself as a chameleon. I can transform
myself into an English country lady and, a second later,
change my look to that of Olivia Newton John or Farrah
Fawcett."
Madonna, 48, married film director Ritchie, 38, at Skibo
Castle in Scotland in December 2000.
They renewed their vows in a Kabbalah ceremony on their
fourth anniversary.
She made her latest comments to VSD, the Paris-based celebrity
magazine. Madonna and her family frequently choose France
to make controversial comments.
Last year Guy Ritchie appeared live on national television
and could not remember what his wife’s full name
was.
He made the faux pas on the Paris talk show "Everyone’s
Talking about it", admitting that he could not recall
that Madonna was christened Madonna Louise Ciccone.

Madonna
has made an appointment to meet Russian president Vladimir
Putin when she arrives in Moscow her September concert,
reports say.
A source close to the singer, who is scheduled to perform
in Moscow on September 11 as part of her Confessions world
tour, revealed that she had been eager to meet the Russian
president for quite some time, and while he wasn’t
too sure about it, having daughters who are huge fans
of the queen of pop certainly seems to have lent a helping
hand.
“This has been on the cards for a while. She really
wanted to meet him but he wasn’t sure initially.
But his daughters are big fans so he eventually agreed,”
The Sun quoted the source as saying.
As for what they’re going to converse about, the
source added that the favored topic will be world peace
rather than the singer’s controversial crucifixion
stunt.
“No doubt Madonna will want to talk about world
peace rather than her raunchy dance moves on stage,”
the insider added.
The tour will be the U.S. pop star’s first appearance
in Moscow. |

The
'Hung Up' singer is set to bring her 'Confessions' world

meet with President Vladimir Putin in the Russian capital
the day after.
As well as dining with Putin, Madonna - who is married
to British film director Guy Ritchie - will also meet
his daughters, Maria and Katya.
A source told Britain's The Sun newspaper: "This
has been on the cards for a while. She really wanted to
meet him but he wasn't sure initially. But his daughters
are big fans so he eventually agreed." It is rumoured
that Madonna will take the privileged opportunity to speak
to President Putin about world issues.
The source added: "No doubt Madonna will want to
talk about world peace rather than her raunchy dance moves
on stage." Meanwhile, Madonna may be forced to change
the venue of her Moscow concert because of fears that
students living nearby could injure themselves trying
to watch the show out of their windows.
At present, the show is to be staged on a hill overlooking
the city which faces Lomossov University.
Officials are now considering relocating the concert to
Tushino airfield in northwest Moscow because of the safety
concerns.
Nikolai Koulikov, the head of Moscow's security department,
said: "The question of where the Madonna concert
will eventually take place has still not been resolved.
More than 250,000 tickets have already been sold and we
fear the students of the university could fall from the
windows.". |

Request Second Madonna Show in Moscow |
|
| |
|
|
| |
The
Russian organizers of Madonna's Moscow concert have sent
a request for a second show to the pop star's management
team, Interfax reported Monday.
"The ball is in their court now," said Anton
Atrashkin, PR manager for Madonna's Russian show, adding
that the request had no deadline.
Madonna will bring her "Confessions" tour to
Moscow's Vorobyovy Gory on Sept. 11. Tickets for the show
sold out in just four days.
Atrashkin also responded to reports of a threat to Madonna's
safety in Moscow that appeared in the Western media.
The Sun, a British tabloid, reported Saturday that Russian
gangsters had threatened to kidnap Madonna and her two
children, son Rocco and daughter Lourdes.
Atrashkin said that, while he could not provide details
of the security measures that would be taken to protect
Madonna in Moscow, the gangsters mentioned in the Sun's
article would have "no chance of causing the singer
any trouble."
Also on Monday, German prosecutors said they had decided
against opening an investigation into Madonna after the
pop diva performed a controversial mock crucifixion scene
at a weekend concert, The Associated Press reported.
A crowd of about 45,000 packed D?sseldorf's LTU Arena
Sunday night to watch the first of two German concerts
on the "Confessions" tour. The crucifixion scene
recently drew criticism in Italy, and D?sseldorf prosecutors
said last week that they would monitor reports about the
concert. They did not, however, send observers.
Madonna was scheduled to perform in Hannover, Germany
on Tuesday. |

Madonna
Thinks 'Mystical' Water Can Clean Radioactive Waste |
|
DUESSELDORF, Germany —
The Material Girl thinks a "mystical"
material can clean up radioactive waste.
Madonna and her husband, filmmaker Guy Ritchie,
both followers of the Jewish spiritual movement
Kaballah, have lobbied the British government
to use the magic, water-based liquid - which they
say was successfully tested in a Russian lake,
it was reported Sunday.
"It was like a crank
call . . . the scientific mechanisms and principles
were just bollocks, basically," an official
told London's Sunday Times.
Madonna reportedly approached Downing Street,
before being directed to other agencies.
|
|
|
|

"She
relentlessly pursued people," said a former official.
"She wanted to get this Russian scientist to explain
this to civil servants."
But her campaign bogged down in bureaucracy.
"It was a case of pass the parcel," the former
official said.
The Kabbalah Centre, based in California, believes water
can be given magic healing powers through "meditations
and the consciousness of sharing." |

MADONNA
has urged the Government to use a "mystical"
Kabbalah fluid to clean up radioactive waste, according
to reports.
The pop superstar is a keen follower of the Jewish spiritual
movement which believes that water can receive magic healing
powers through "meditations and the consciousness
of sharing".
Together with husband Guy Ritchie, she has approached
Downing Street, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)
and British Nuclear Fuels (BNFL) with the idea, according
to reports.
It is understood she was promoting a water-based solution
that had allegedly proved successful in neutralising dangerous
nuclear waste in Russia.
Downing Street and the DTI said they did not comment on
private correspondence. |

magical nuclear waste cure |

‘Kabbalah
fluid can clean it up’ |

|
|
| |
MADONNA
and her husband Guy Ritchie have been lobbying the government
and nuclear industry over a scheme to clean up radioactive
waste with a supposedly magic Kabbalah fluid.
The couple, both followers of the Jewish spiritual movement,
approached Downing Street, Whitehall and British Nuclear
Fuels (BNFL) promoting a “mystical” liquid
tested in a Ukrainian lake.
“It was like a crank call . . . the scientific mechanisms
and principles were just bollocks, basically,” one
official said.
But civil servants at the Department of Trade and Industry
(DTI) and scientists at BNFL were obliged to take the
celebrity couple seriously.
It is understood that the couple, who live in London and
Wiltshire, were promoting a water-based solution that
had allegedly proved successful in neutralising dangerous
nuclear waste in Ukraine.
The Kabbalah Centre, which is based in California, believes
water is a uniquely important substance that can be given
magic healing powers through “meditations and the
consciousness of sharing”.
Madonna is said to have approached Downing Street, before
being directed to the DTI. “She relentlessly pursued
people,” said a former DTI civil servant. “She
wanted to get this Russian scientist to explain this to
civil servants.”
But her campaign became bogged down by Whitehall bureaucracy.
“It was a case of pass the parcel,” said the
civil servant.
Ritchie, the film director, cold-called BNFL and wrote
a series of letters accompanied by scientific papers.
A panel of BNFL’s best scientists was tasked with
looking into the proposal but could find no scientific
basis for the claims.
The lobbying, which took place a few years ago, was part
of a campaign by Madonna, who saw it as her mission to
rid the world of nuclear waste. She made this clear in
newspaper interviews at the time.
“I mean, one of the biggest problems that exists
right now in the world is nuclear waste,” she said.
“That’s something I’ve been involved
with for a while with a group of scientists — finding
a way to neutralise radiation, believe it or not.”
The Kabbalah Centre, which is based in Los Angeles but
has branches worldwide, was set up by Philip Berg, a former
insurance salesman. One devotee has described how Berg
leads chants of “Chernobyl” and the names
of other nuclear power plants. Followers believe this
helps “heal the problem of nuclear waste”.
Undercover reporters who attended a Kabbalah Centre dinner
in London described how Madonna and Ritchie were among
guests who turned east towards Chernobyl and began shouting
its name.
Some Kabbalah followers are even said to believe that
nuclear waste is the cause of the Aids epidemic.
Madonna has said: “According to science we aren’t
going to have a planet in about 50 years at the rate we’re
going with nuclear waste. |

Guy Ritchie is concerned about Madonna's decision to take
her Confessions tour to Russia.
The pop queen is said to have received sinister threats
to kidnap her, son Rocco and daughter Lourdes, but insists
that she still wants to perform in Moscow.
A source told The Sun: "Madonna is well aware of
the kidnap threats but she is brave and even a little
nonchalant when it comes to her own safety. Guy is seriously
concerned and has made it clear that security has to be
tightened, just to be on the safe side.
“Madonna doesn’t anticipate any problems herself
but Guy isn’t convinced. Her tour director, Chris,
has been on edge after being informed about the threats.
He has made changes to security to increase the protection
around her on tour.
“Madonna has made a firm plea for Guy and security
bosses to relax but they are refusing to overlook the
problem.”
The singer has sparked controversy by including a mock-crucifixion
scene in the tour. |

But there is one constant in the recent controversies
over the president's condemnation of suspected terrorists
held in Britain as "Islamic fascists" and Madonna's
abuse of a sacred symbol of Christianity to promote her
concert tour.
That constant is how easy it has become - whether it is
a small group of fanatics or the world's most self-indulged
celebrity - to desecrate the faith of billions of people.
This is not the very first time for Madonna, who for two
decades has made a good living finding new ways to call
attention to herself. Back in the 1980s, she treated crosses
and rosaries as mere fashion accessories as she shamelessly
exploited the connection between her name and the mother
of Christ in songs such as "Like a Virgin."
In her latest attempt to generate a buzz - her "Confessions"
concert tour, for which a ticket can cost $350 - she portrays
herself crucified on a giant mirrored cross, wearing a
faux crown of thorns.
Shouldn't we be used to her boundless narcissism by now?
