ELLE EXCLUSIVE: It’s intimate, it’s outrageous: The Madonna interview
In May’s issue of ELLE magazine our newest cover star Madonna talks intimately to Louise Gannon about her new album, family life, staying in shape and her love of Cadbury Creme Eggs…
This year Madonna turns 50, yet on the cover of this month’s ELLE magazine, out tomorrow, you would hardly believe it. In her latest interview she tells us just how she stays at the top of her game and reveals how she keeps in such incredible shape.

‘There are no short cuts to being Madonna,’ she tells us. ‘It’s all about hard work. There is no easy way. If you want to know how I look like I do, it’s diet and exercise and constantly being careful.’ She also swears by oxygen facials and never goes in the sun, drinks rarely and would like to work out for three hours a day, she reveals in a candid interview on the eve of the hotly anticipated release of her 26th album, Hard Candy.
It probably comes as no surprise that her routine is regimented and strict and that's how she gets such great results. ‘I’m not going to slow down, get off this ride, stay home and get fat!’ she declares. But isn’t it hard to be perfect all the time Madge?

‘One of the worst things about Britain is that it has such fabulous candy,’ she says and lets slip that when she’s worked particularly hard at something, like the rest of us she rewards herself with a treat. ‘I love Cadbury Fruit and Nut, Crunchies and Maltesers. But my absolute favourite is a Cadbury Creme Egg. I bite straight in to it and suck all that good stuff right out!’

Madonnarama!
As she nears 50, Madonna’s narrative is shifting. Yes, there’s another new super-pop album, Hard Candy, with Justin Timberlake and Pharrell Williams. But there’s also Filth and Wisdom, the feature film she’s co-written, produced, and directed, and I Am Because We Are, her documentary on Malawi, the aids-ravaged country where she controversially adopted her third child.
Whisked to L.A. for an intense prep session, followed by an almost two-hour interview, the author explores the evolution of the Madonna myth as she harnesses her image-making genius to a cause, a philosophy, and the search for her true self.
Source: vanityfair.com by Rich Cohen
US Magazines: Vanity Fair
Vanity Fair have sent out this press release informing fans of what to expect from the upcoming May issue: Madonna appears on the cover of Vanity Fair for the 10th time, posing for photographer and longtime collaborator Steven Meisel for V.F.’s third annual Green Issue.
The inspiration for the cover image (Madonna holding up a custom-made globe of the world measuring four feet in diameter) came from the cover of a mid-century fashion magazine and the 1920s work of Czech photographer Frantisek Drtikol.

Madonna tells Vanity Fair contributing editor Rich Cohen that in high school, 'I was one of those people that people were mean to.' She continues, 'I wasn’t a hippie or a stoner, so I ended up being the weirdo. I was interested in classical ballet and music, and the kids were quite mean if you were different....'

'When that happened, instead of being a doormat, I decided to emphasize my differences. I didn’t shave my legs. I had hair growing under my arms. I refused to wear makeup, or fit the ideal of what a conventionally pretty girl would look like. So of course I was tortured even more, and that further validated my superiority, and helped me to survive and say, ‘I’m getting out of here, and everyone is a heathen in this school—you don’t even know who Mahler is!'

Madonna draws on the same kinds of survival skills today when it comes to dealing with all of the media attention, telling Cohen, 'You have to get to a point where you care as little about getting smoke blown up your ass as you do when you become a whipping boy in the press, because ultimately they both add up to shit. You just have to keep doing your work, and hope and pray somebody’s dialing into your frequency. If your joy is derived from what society thinks of you, you’re always going to be disappointed.'
Madonna speaks on a range of topics, including:
BRITNEY SPEARS:
'Yes, I know. I know exactly what you’re going to say. It’s very painful. Which leads us back to our question: When you think about the way people treat each other in Africa, about witchcraft and people inflicting cruelty and pain on each other, then come back here and, you know, people taking pictures of people when they’re in their homes, being taken to hospitals, or suffering, and selling them, getting energy from them, that’s a terrible infliction of cruelty. So who’s worse off? You know what I mean?'

THE PAPARAZZI:
'The paparazzi are out of control. I haven’t been to Los Angeles in quite a while, and I don’t watch television here or in England, and I was told there’s now a television show where the paparazzi are the stars of the show—is that true? That they film each other doing paparazzi jobs? Which gives them more fuel. I usually found that type kept their distance—they definitely do in England, because it’s illegal to photograph children. But that’s not how it is here. They get this close, and don’t care how much they scare your children.'
'Being famous has changed a lot, because now there’s so many outlets, between magazines, TV shows, and the Internet, for people to stalk and follow you. We created the monster.'

WRITING AND DIRECTING HER FIRST FILM:
'I’ve been inspired by films since I started dancing, and I’m married to a filmmaker, and I think it was one of my secret desires, but I was afraid to just say, ‘I want to be a director.’ But then one day I said, O.K., stop dreaming and do it. But I didn’t want to do it the Hollywood way, and talk through agents. I decided it all had to be generated by me, so I wrote it....It was my film school.'

HOW NEW YORK HAS CHANGED:
'It’s not the exciting place it used to be. It still has great energy; I still put my finger in the socket. But it doesn’t feel alive, cracking with that synergy between the art world and music world and fashion world that was happening in the 80s. A lot of people died.'

THE MUSIC BUSINESS:
'Well, there’s one thing you can’t download and that’s a live performance. And I know how to put on a show, and enjoy performing, and I’ll always have that.'

HER LONG CAREER:
'Honestly, it’s not something I sit around ruminating about. Who is my role model and how long can I keep this going? I just move around and do different things and come back to music, try making films and come back to music, write children’s books and come back to music.'

HOW HER MOVIES ARE DIFFERENT FROM HER HUSBAND, GUY RITCHIE’S:
'We make different kinds of movies. I don’t have the technical knowledge he has. He’s got a vision, and his films are very testosterone-fueled. Mine are much more from a female point of view, and I can’t help but be autobiographical in everything I do.'

HOW HAVING CHILDREN CHANGES YOU:
'If you have children, you know you’re responsible for somebody. You realize you are being imitated; your belief systems and priorities have a direct influence on these children, who are like flowers in a garden. So you start to second-guess everything you value, and the suffering of other children becomes much more intolerable.'

HER FAVORITE CHILDREN’S BOOKS:
'Winnie the Pooh, Pippi Longstocking, Horrid Henry.'

THE LOSS OF HER MOTHER [AT AGE SIX]:
'You’re aware of a sense of loss, and feel a sense of abandonment. Children always think they did something wrong when their parents disappear.'

The May issue of Vanity Fair hits newsstands in New York and Los Angeles on April 2 and nationally on April 8.

Delicious new Madonna album scheduled to be released on WARNER BROS. RECORDS APRIL 29th
28 February 2008, Burbank, California - Madonna's 11th studio album for Warner Bros. Records "HARD CANDY" is scheduled to have a global release on April 28th and a US release on April 29th, it was confirmed by her label.

"HARD CANDY" (the follow up to Madonna's "CONFESSIONS ON A DANCE FLOOR" which debuted at No. 1 in 30 countries and sold over 8 million copies), has been described as a brilliant up-tempo collection of 12 songs in which Madonna remains ensconced in club mode but this time adds an urban hip hop beat in collaboration with musical partners Timbaland, Justin Timberlake, Pharrell Williams of The Neptunes and Nate "Danja" Hills. The debut single, the pulsating "4 Minutes" will be released at the end of March.

"The title is a juxtaposition of tough and sweetness... kind of like I'm gonna kick your ass but it's going to make you feel good. And of course, I love candy" laughed the material girl. Madonna, a multi-Grammy-award-winning singer, songwriter, producer, cultural icon, world renowned stage performer, video visionary, children's book author, director and documentary film maker has sold 200 million albums in the course of her unprecedented two decade plus career and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 10th.

Exclusive interview with the Michael Yo on E! satellite radio show
Madonna spoke to "Yo on E!" satellite radio show
Listen to the interview
NEW YORK - Madonna wants the media to leave Britney Spears alone. "They need to step off," she told the "Yo on E!" satellite radio show. "For real ... Let's go save her."

Madonna, 49, said her daughter, Lourdes, 11, feels the same way.
"She knows Britney, (but) she doesn't really watch TV or read gossip stuff," the pop star said in the interview. "I think she sort of gets the drift of what's going on, and I think she feels very protective of Britney."

Madonna and husband Guy Ritchie have a son, Rocco, 7, and are raising a Malawian boy they want to adopt.

"He's the life of the party," she said of David, who she brought home from Africa in 2006. "He loves music, he's an amazing dancer. ... He's a character."

She said caring for David is no different from her raising her biological children: "I thought it was gonna be, but it feels the same to tell you the truth."

As for speculation that her marriage is on the rocks, Madonna said: "It is ridiculous. ... I don't pay much attention to it."

The singer's spokeswoman Liz Rosenberg recently dismissed media reports that the Ritchies have split up, saying they "remain happily married." Rosenberg said that Madonna and filmmaker Ritchie, 39, were "joyfully back together at home in London" after living in separate countries for work purposes.

Madonna, whose new album "Hard Candy" arrives April 29, told "Yo on E!" that she plans to spend the summer in New York, and that she might kick off a tour this fall.

Madonna Talks Britney, Guy, Candy
Los Angeles (E! Online) - Forget the dance floor, these days Madonna's doing all her confessing on the radio.

In an exclusive interview with the Yo on E! satellite radio show, the newly minted Rock and Roll Hall of Famer holds forth on her former spit-swapping buddy Britney Spears, her upcoming album and the relentless rumors that her marriage is in peril. (Listen to the interview.)

About her pop protégé, Madonna says that Spears remains the artist of choice for 11-year-old daughter Lourdes (Rocco, meanwhile, prefers the dulcet tones of Chris Brown and Usher) and said that, like her discerning daughter, she remains a supporter of the beleaguered star.

"They need to step off," Madonna said of the tabloid and paparazzi focus on Spears. "For real...Let's go save her."

Madonna says Lourdes, who met Spears "back in the day," is equally concerned, albeit in an age-appropriate way.

"She knows Britney, but doesn't catch all that gossip stuff. So I think she sorta gets the drift of what's going on, and I think she's kind of protective of Britney."

As for Madonna's own home life, she cautions that headlines can be deceiving.

"We still have to take turns," the chart topper said of hubby Guy Ritchie with regard to marital compromise. "It's not easy."

It's also, however, not as the tabloids portray.

"You know how people are. It is ridiculous," she says of the recent slate of state-of-her-union reports. "I don't pay much attention to it."

What she does pay attention to is keeping her now slightly larger family unit tight.

Of the Ritchie family's latest addition, Malawi-born son David, Madonna calls his presence nothing short of "amazing."

"He's the life of the party. He loves music, he's an amazing dancer, he's just a character."

As for whether raising an adopted child is any different from her genetic children, she says she was surprised in that she "thought it would be, but it feels the same, to tell you the truth."

The superstar singer, currently gearing up to summer in the U.S., a country she says she misses despite loving living in the U.K., also talked shop, particularly about her upcoming album, Hard Candy.

"It is sexy," she said. "I think it's got some hard set beats, but there's some sweetness on top. I like the juxtaposition."

She also hazarded a guess as to why some of her more recent albums seemed to connect more with her overseas fan base than her U.S. one, chalking it up to the records' British producers and the fact that "the vibe was more European."

"Now my copilots are American and it has more of an American feel."

The patriotism-approved Hard Candy is due out April 29.

Her Yo on E! interview airs in its entirety Friday afternoon.

Preview of Q Magazine Interview
It must be hard when you're the reigning queen of pop like Madonna.

Madge, 49, is the biggest selling female recording artist in the world.

But she's still striving for more. She told Q Magazine: "What else is there for me to conquer? Hopefully my ego.

"How will I know when I've succeeded? When I stop caring what anyone thinks."
We think she's joking, but supermum Madge also admtted that she organises her family like one of her well-choreographed dance routines.

She said: "I have to eke out the time. One day I don't see my kids much and the next day I make sure I do. You look at your calendar and you go, 'OK, this day's crazy. But OK, this day I'm going to take my daughter to ballet. The next day I'm going to be gone all day. So the day after I'm going to make sure I'm around for dinner and bathtime'."

And the woman who once posed naked for her Sex book also says: "I can be shy. And nervous. About things. People will never think that of me."

Now we know she's joking.

Madonna song used for Japanese TV drama
TOKYO (Hollywood Reporter) - A ballad from Madonna's upcoming album will provide the theme music for a new Japanese television show, the first time the pop diva has licensed a tune for a TV drama here.

The song, "Miles Away," will be used for the show "Change," which is scheduled to begin airing in April. It is taken from Madonna's "Hard Candy" album, which is set for release here April 30.

The show stars local heartthrob Takuya Kimura in the tale of a small-town elementary school teacher who is suddenly -- if improbably -- propelled into the position of prime minister of Japan. Madonna met Kimura when she appeared as a guest on the his "SMAPxSMAP" variety show in 2005.

Madonna's secret weapon: The fitness guru who's given the 50-year-old singer the body of a 25-year-old
She's nearly 50 but has the body of a 25-year-old. How does she do it? Lifestyle spoke exclusively to Madonna's fitness guru to find out...

Love her or loathe her, you have to admit that Madonna looks incredible. Set to turn 50 this year, the striking blonde could be a woman half her age.

According to Tracy, a lot of what's wrong with your work-out is repetition.
"Any time you are doing the same movement over and over you are building and bulking your muscles," she says. "It is very important to change your rotations and hit your muscles from different angles."

With celebrity clients such as Madonna and Gwyneth, Tracy says, "I constantly have to invent new things and new systems for each and every work-out.

Billboard Reviews '4 Minutes'

It doesn't take anywhere close to '4 Minutes' to realize that Madonna is poised to score her first top 10 hit since 2005's 'Hung Up.' The launch single from upcoming 'Hard Candy'-her 11th and final studio album for Warner Bros.-co-stars Justin Timberlake, with production props from Timbaland.

There's an awful lot going on in the busy dance track: sing-song verses, insistent foghorns, cowbells, chants of "tick-tock" and "Madonna, Madonna," and a rap from Timbaland-but the trade-off chorus between Madge and Justin of "We've only got four minutes to save the world" is hooky enough unto itself to sell the song. "4" qualifies as an event record between superpowers who not only share equal billing, but sound gangbusters together. Expect instantaneous penetration for this spring break '08 anthem.
