| MADONNA:
'I HATE SHOPPING' |
|
Queen of pop MADONNA dislikes shopping for clothing so much she
employs assistants to do it for her, despite her reputation as one
of the world's best dressed women. The MATERIAL GIRL, who lives
in London with her children and husband GUY RITCHIE, prefers to
dress simply on a day-to-day basis.
She says, "I don't pay attention to British women's style.
I just run around in my tracksuit with sunglasses on. "I have
never liked shopping. I don't like going into a store and going
through the racks. I am happy to have girls do it for me."

| Madonna's
Lourdes wedding dream |
| The
singer is keeping her ivory Stella McCartney designer gown for her
10-year-old daughter's special day, after Lourdes begged her mother
to let her wear it.
Madonna confessed to Elle magazine: "The only thing Lourdes
has requested to have when she grows up is my wedding dress, to
wear for her own wedding."
While Madonna and Lourdes agree on wedding attire, they don't always
agree on fashion.
The 48-year-old pop superstar, famed for her outrageous stage outfits,
admits she disapproves of her daughter's clothes choices.
Madonna said: "My daughter is going through the phase of wearing
jeans so tight she can't bend her knees in them. I have a go at
her and say, 'Can't you wear something else? And can you please
wear a belt because I don't want to see your butt crack when you
bend over.'" |

Family Style Matters |
| Madonna,
who was given the Elle Style Icon Award at the 10th Elle Style Awards
sponsored by H&M (held in London earlier this month), graces
the cover of British Elle's April issue.
Inside, the 48-year-old star expresses concern that her older children,
Lourdes, 10, and Rocco, 6, don't share her evolved fashion sense.
"My daughter is going through a phase of wearing jeans that
are so tight she can't bend her knees in them. I have a go at her
and say, 'Can't you wear something else? You have a closet full
of clothes and you wear the same pants every day. And please wear
a belt because I don't want to see your butt crack when you bend
over,'" she tells the magazine.
And Rocco is just as guilty.
"My son never wants to take off his Gap army fatigue pants.
They both wear the same thing over and over again."
We can only assume that 17-month-old baby David is wearing out the
whole diapers-and-drool look as well.
Husband, Guy Ritchie, on the other hand, knows better. "He's
very obedient in the clothes department!" says Madonna.
We can see that Madonna has trained her husband very well. Good
boy, Guy. |

| How
does Madonna juggle family, career and all her other commitments? |
|
Sometimes not very well, she admits
"I scream a lot!" the singer, 48, tells British Elle.
"Sometimes I handle [stress] well, sometimes I don't. I take
a deep breath or sometimes it's nice to go run really fast on a
treadmill for half an hour and get out all of my aggression. And
I'm surrounded by very efficient people who remind me that it's
just a job and I'm going to be okay."
One thing that isn't a source of tension in her household is her
fashion sense. Critics may love to hate some of her more out-there
outfits, but husband Guy Ritchie, 38, isn't one of them.
Does he comment on what she wears? "Not really," she says.
"Although once he said, 'I like the dress you're almost wearing'
– you know, one of those comments. But I think he pretty much
approves of how I dress."
Even the Confessions on a Dance Floor leotard? "He liked it."
Ritchie himself isn't stubborn when it comes to fashion.
"I like it when my husband wears suits and I tell him that
on a regular basis," Madonna says. Does he listen? "Yes,
he does. He's very obedient in the clothing department!"
Her kids are another story.
Though daughter Lourdes, 10, is modeling and testing the prototypes
for Madonna's children's clothing line, a tie-in with her English
Roses book series, she has her own outfit of choice.
"My daughter is going through a phase of wearing jeans that
are so tight she can't bend her knees in them. I have a go at her
and say, 'Can't you wear something else? You have a closet full
of clothes and you wear the same pants every day. And please wear
a belt because I don't want to see your butt crack when you bend
over.' "
Likewise, her 6-year-old son, Rocco, "never wants to take off
his Gap army fatigue pants. They both wear the same thing over and
over again." |

you wear something else? |
| February
28, 2007 -- IT'S do as I say, not as I do, for Madonna, who's laid
down the law to her daughter, Lourdes, 10, about dressing too provocatively.
"My daughter is going through a phase
of wearing jeans so tight she can't bend her knees in them,"
the Material Mom, who posed nude for her "Sex" book, tells
British Elle. "I have a go at her and
say, 'Can't you wear something else? You have a closet full of clothes
and you wear the same pants every day . . . And please wear a belt
because I don't want to see your butt crack when you bend over.'

| The
Marilyn Monroe Connection |
| Then there
was of course a very famous Marilyn Monroe admirer who
already outlived Marilyn (thank god she did not die at
36!) for 11 years: Madonna. She brought Marilyn back to
all of us during her strong Marilyn Monroe period, which
she took to heights at her Oscar appearance in 1991, when
she was dressed a la Monroe, including trademark fur stole
(which made Peta upset of course), and sexy dress, diamonds
and make-up. |

what is it, about this Marilyn Monreo obsession, of the Hollywood

| Madonna's
film company and other firm ordered to mediate dispute |
| A
judge on Monday ordered a film production company co-founded by
Madonna and another firm to enter into mediation to try to settle
a legal dispute involving competing plans to make a movie on prisoner
abuse.
Attorneys for Madonna's Maverick Films and Beverly Hills-based Inferno
Distribution were ordered by a Los Angeles Superior Court judge
to report back on May 22 to provide an update on mediation efforts.
Judge Mary Ann Murphy also set a Jan. 16, 2008 trial date in case
the dispute wasn't settled.
Maverick Films sued last October, claiming Inferno Distribution
unfairly represented itself to gain access to confidential information
about a movie Maverick was making called "The Stanford Prison
Experiment."
Inferno Distribution countersued last December, alleging slander,
unfair competition and interference with contractual relations.
The countersuit said the company was trying to make an English-language
version of a German movie that examined the psychological effects
of prison.
Maverick Films was founded by Madonna and Maverick Records executive
Guy Oseary in 2001. The company acquired rights to the story in
2002 from Stanford University psychologist Philip G. Zimbardo, who
conducted an experiment on obedience in 1971. |

| Madonna
telling Sirius host Larry Flick why you're obsessed with
her ... |
|
|
|
A live Madonna interview by Larry Flick from SIRIUS today. You can
listen to an interview again on Monday, Feb. 19, 2007 at 9:30am
EST and the following weekend on Larry Flick music show.
During this rare live radio chat, Madonna plugs her Confessions
Tour CD/DVD, noting, "I underestimated
the impact it would have on my life." She jokes that
the only downside to actually seeing her fans up close (thanks to
a gigantic catawalk) was "a few times
guys in suits or guys with white button-down shirts and pencils
in their pockets with their arms folded...sometimes [their] staring
at me without smiling made me think that, like, I was being watched
by Big Brother or somebody from the CIA was there to, like, make
sure that my behavior was not counterrevolutionary or something,
you know what I mean? I only got scared by people who looked like
they weren't having a good time."
In music news, the ever-charming Larry Flick drops the ball by not
following up when Madonna notes she's been composing songs on her
guitar "right now" and says
of his desire to hear a balls-out rock album from her,
"I'll go downstairs and tell Pharrell that right now...I could
see that as a future incarnation." Fave jams of late
include Gnarls Barkley (oh, Madonna...no) and "Justin
Timberlake's album [FutureSex/LoveSounds]...that's my favorite record
to work out to. I didn't like it when I first heard it. I was like,
'This is wack, I don't like this, blah blah blah,' then someone
played it at a party...It just goes to show you that you can't listen
to a record just once."
Best part is when Flick asks the following $64,000 question: |
|
F: Why do you think gay people love you so much, Madonna?
M: Oh, God, everybody asks me that...
F: Well, ’cause I have my own personal theory...
M: Oh, share.
F: Well ’cause I think, I think, I think you're a big old
queen yourself.
M: Well, there's that theory, there's
that theory.
F: ’Cause you're kinda girlie like a queen, but you're also...
M: But I'm kinda tough like a guy?
F: But you're a top. You're a top.
M: Definitely, definitely.
F: You're definitely not a bottom.
M: Nooo! Don't tell that to my husband.
F: Okay!
[Lots of laughter]
Yeah, I don't know, I just think, you know, it's like gay men are
sort of like perfect men for, for girls who are tough, because they're
not threatened by strong women and they're, you know, usually very
in touch with their feelings and pay attention to details and, um...I
don't know, I've just always had an affinity with gay men and, you
know, sometimes if I analyze it and say what it is then I, then
I go, 'No, that's not totally, entirely the reason. |
| |
Fabulously, the interview ends with Madonna declaring, "I
wanna be like Gandhi and Martin Luther King and John Lennon—but
I wanna stay alive," and with Flick somehow persuading
Madonna to be either a pretty clove of broccoli or a delicious brownie
on his plate. Oh, Larry...very Barbara Walters! Great, fun interview
and she sounds as Michigan as she's sounded since the day she spent
mugging for the camera with friends at Boblo Island.

The
M by Madonna collection at H&M is almost here and this time
she's giving us something a little more exciting than tracksuits.
The line, which Madonna helped create with design chief Margareta
van den Bosch, is full of lumber jackets, blazers, kimono dresses,
handbags and, of course, sunglasses with her signature M on the
side. The line has been described as ultra glamorous and very sexy.
From what we see here, we love it so far. Madonna is evidently pretty
thrilled as well.
She says: "I've made no secret of my love of fashion. Working
with H&M was an exciting and new creative challenge. I'm happy
with the results and look forward to wearing M by Madonna along
with the rest of the world."
Madonna looks amazing and fierce in the ads for the collection.

of) stores next month. |

becomes H&M's material girl |
|
|
She
has been known as the Material Girl for years. Now Madonna
has really become one by launching a fashion line for
high street giant H&M.
The singer has worked closely with the company's design
chief Margareta van den Bosch to create a range of clothes
and accessories called M by Madonna.
Madonna, 48, said: "I've made no secret of my love
of fashion. Working with H&M was an exciting and new
creative challenge. I'm happy with the results and look
forward to wearing M by Madonna along with the rest of
the world." |
|
 |
|
The
collection - described as "reflecting Madonna's timeless, unique
and always glamorous style" - goes into stores in 28 countries,
including the UK, next month.
It includes lumber jackets, blazers, kimono dresses, handbags and
sunglasses, mainly in white, black, khaki and grey. A Madonna favourite
is a stylish trenchcoat in cotton poplin and leather. Prices will
range from £7.99 to £149.99.
Madonna, who is also modelling the collection for H&M's advertising
campaign, apparently displayed considerable talent as a designer.
"Madonna has an impressive feel for fashion and trends,"
said Ms van den Bosch.
"She was extraordinarily style conscious, passionate and involved
in even the smallest details."
The collaboration began last spring when H&M supplied a complete
line of of f- stage clothing for Madonna's touring company, which
led to the "Madonna tracksuit" being sold in stores.
H& M's previous collaborations, with designers Karl Lagerfeld,
Stella McCartney and Viktor& Rolf, caused stampedes in its branches
when the clothes went on sale. |

Madonna designs heading for the high street |
|
Madonna's
last range for H&M was considered a flop, will this one fare
any better? |
Madonna
flexes her fashion muscles with another collaboration with H&M,
writes Clare Coulso
Madonna — the world's highest earning female performer, worth
an estimated £165 million — still has time for a few
little jobs on the side.
Working closely with the Swedish fashion chain H&M, she has
helped to create a high street collection closely based on her own
glamorous wardrobe staples.
The range, M by Madonna, goes on sale next month and includes chic
belted trench coats, an elegant black jersey maxi dress, a fitted,
1970s-inspired bomber jacket - one of Madonna's signature looks
in recent years — and skinny black trousers.
This is Madonna's second collaboration with H&M. Her first,
a track-suit that went on sale last summer amid much publicity,
was regarded by many as a flop.
The 48-year-old singer has worked with fashion designers from Jean
Paul Gaultier to Stella McCartney during her career and ignited
more style trends than any other performer.
H&M, which celebrates its 60th anniversary this year, has boosted
profits by hooking up with big names including Karl Lagerfeld. |

my children were much younger than they are now, way back
in 1989, they knew Al Pacino as a friend of the family,
but not as a movie star or celebrity. They were too young
(6 and 9 years old) to have seen any of his movies (other
than Author! Author! and even that wouldn’t have
held their interest) or attend any functions where photographers
screamed his name and snapped his picture. But they did
know (what child didn’t?) who Madonna was. |
|
 |
|
Madonna was a blonde fantasy who sang songs with lyrics they could
imitate, even if they didn’t quite know what “Like a
Virgin” or what being a “Material Girl” meant.
Madonna was like Halloween, someone who looked all glitzy and unreal,
someone whom they could dress like to go trick-or-treating.
So imagine when Pacino came to visit and told them that he was about
to make a movie called Dick Tracy with Madonna. They just stared
at him in disbelief—how could he know her? And what was he
doing, making a movie? He was a guy who came on occasions to play
chess with their dad, or to sit in the living room and talk to their
dad. Madonna never came to the house. Their dad never claimed to
know her.
“Why don’t you bring the girls to the set one day?”
Pacino suggested. “I’ll introduce them to Madonna.”... |

Swedish
retail behemoth H&M has announced that it has commissioned pop
superstar Madonna for a second exclusive clothing range for the
chain.
Having designed tracksuits for the store earlier this year and appearing
in a series of H&M advertisements, Madonna has agreed to design
a new collection of clothes and accessories.
Hitting high street stores in March 2007, it will be named M for
Madonna and designed in conjunction with Margareta van den Bosch,
H&M's head of design.
A spokeswoman for the store said it would "reflect Madonna's
timeless, unique and always glamorous style".
She added: "Madonna has an impressive feel for fashion and
trends. She was extraordinarily style conscious, passionate and
was involved in even the smallest details of every design."
Madonna commented that she loves fashion and that "working
with Margareta and H&M was an exciting and creative challenge"
and she looks forward to wearing the results "along with the
rest of the world".
Karl Lagerfeld and Stella McCartney have also previously designed
for H&M and financial analysts predict Madonna's help will boost
publicity and sales. |

children's clothing range from Madonna (uk) |

A
series of children's books written by pop supremo Madonna is to
have its own spin-off range of clothes in the UK.
The books chronicle the adventures of The English Roses who are
a fictional group of girls created by Madonna. Already released
in the US, the clothes range will use illustrations from the books
as its inspiration.
The Premier Kids trade show in Birmingham, scheduled for late January
2007, will see the initial look at the new clothing range which
will be manufactured by Lipstik Clothing.
According to Madonna's publicists the range has been a top seller
in US stores because it is hip with vivid colours and trendy designs.
However some fashion journalists in the UK have commented that the
UK kids' wear market is notoriously hard to break because supermarket
prices have meant parents choose their children's outfits on account
of its price rather than the designer. |

The 21-year-old prince reportedly had tears in his eyes as he spoke
to Ritchie at length about the orphans he has befriended in Africa.
Harry has founded his own charity, called Sentebale, to help millions
of Aids orphans in Lesotho.
One reveller in Mahiki last night said: "Harry wasn't drunk,
even though he had a few cocktails from the Mahiki Treasure Chest.
The more he talked to Guy about Africa, Aids and the children, the
more he was tearful. He seems to be a very sensitive guy. He also
gushed to Guy about how caring his girlfriend Chelsy is towards
the African orphans."
After their intense discussion, the mood became lighter as Harry
and Madonna, 48, swapped exercise tips and compared notes on how
much they trained, how far they run and their respective injuries
- which raised a few giggles among the party.
It certainly looked as if the singer had enjoyed her night out with
the prince.
Ever the gentleman, Guy certainly clutched her tightly as they emerged
from the club in the early hours. Earlier in the evening the couple
enjoyed a meal in the recently reopened Scott's fish restaurant
in Mayfair - a favourite A-list haunt. |

| The
DVD has been banned in Singapore! |
| Cross scene
could be reason |
|
|
IF you are a Madonna fan waiting for her Confessions Tour on DVD,
forget it.
The New Paper understands it is because of a controversial mock
crucifixion that the 48-year-old singer (left, performing in Amsterdam)
staged during her world tour last year.
She performed the song Live To Tell suspended from a cross while
wearing a crown of thorns.
When we contacted Warner Music Singapore, its marketing manager,
Mr Simon Nasser, said the Media Development Authority has not approved
the DVD's release.
MDA could not be reached for comment at press time.
The DVD had its worldwide release on 29 and 30 Jan.
Mr Nasser said Warner Music had submitted it for approval last month.
The application and a subsequent appeal were rejected.
'We were asked to remove the cross scene in the video but Warner
Singapore does not have the rights from Madonna's management to
do that,' he said.
The Confessions world tour, which went to 25 cities in seven countries,
has drawn protests.
The BBC reported that church groups in the US and Europe condemned
the performance and in the Netherlands, a priest was arrested after
he attempted to stop the Dutch leg of the tour by making a hoax
bomb threat.
Dutch Protestant groups wanted to bring blasphemy charges against
Madonna, but the Amsterdam prosecutors' office refused, saying the
scene was subject to different interpretations.
Madonna released a statement after the Japan leg of the tour in
September last year, saying that her act was not mocking the church.
She said: 'My performance is neither anti-Christian, sacrilegious
nor blasphemous. Rather, it is my plea to the audience to encourage
mankind to help one another and to see the world as a unified whole.'
The performance, she explained, was intended to draw attention to
the millions of African children dying of Aids.
It also brought her a lot of money.
US music magazine Billboard reported that the Confessions tour made
US$193.7 million ($297m) and was the highest-earning show by a female
artiste.
Madonna fans were able to catch the concert on cable TV's Channel
V.
The channel also gave away the DVDs as part of a promotional campaign
in Kuala Lumpur last month.
This is not the first time Madonna has had a run-in with religious
people.
In 1989, the Vatican condemned her music video Like A Prayer, which
featured burning crosses, statues crying blood and Madonna seducing
a black Jesus.
Mr Brenton Wong, 44, a public relations consultant, said he was
not surprised by the ban.
'It is understandable. In Singapore we are sensitive about provoking
religious groups,' he said.
But he also thinks our society is mature enough to handle the provocative
material that Madonna dishes out.
'She's known to do it,' he said. 'People should not read so much
into it.' |

Steven Klein is not just a glossy image-maker for the stars; his
work can go straight for the jugular, finds Tim Teeman.
Madonna, says Klein, is “very clear,
surprisingly focused” in conceiving innovative pictures.
“When you think about it you never see
her back, you rarely see anyone’s back in a photograph and
it’s fascinating to show its muscular structure”.
